What is cannabis pollen and what is it made of?
Marijuana pollen is a grain carried by the wind or bees and comes from the hemp flower. This pollen is extracted directly from the trichomes of the plant and contains a very high concentration of cannabinoids, which are the active ingredients of cannabis.
This is why, on the illegal market, it is sought after in purity by those who wish to feel its psychotropic effects.

It is therefore the trichomes that produce cannabis resin, or pollen, which has relaxing functions and is much more therapeutic than actual marijuana. Its use varies in different fields and guarantees enormous benefits if used correctly.
What is pollen used for?
Marijuana pollen is used to create seeds. Pollen, in nature, allows cannabis plants to transmit their species. In practice, male plants produce pollen sacs and are made up of many balls that open at full maturity and release pollen.
The male cannabis plant releases pollen into the air, and when the tiny grains of pollen, containing the DNA information of the male plant, combine with the gametes of the female plant, cannabis seeds are produced, a pollination that allows our plants to give us the precious flower.
The substance obtained by extracting the trichome from the plant is heated and compressed to obtain a finished product that turns into a kind of small pebble. The varieties differ in the quality of the products, which depends on factors such as the extraction method, plant selection, and screening quality.
There are also low-quality products, in which there are too many pieces of leaves and shoots, while high-quality products have fewer leaves and buds and are obtained from selected plants and precise extraction processes.
How to use pollen?
Cannabis pollen on the black market is mainly sold for smoking. It is usually mixed with tobacco or marijuana before being inserted into the pipe or in pollen joints. Its high concentration of cannabinoids, including THC, makes it even more potent than marijuana.
Many use the pollen directly on the joint, significantly increasing the effects of the substance, certainly one of the most used methods by seasoned smokers.
Although it is illegal to use in France, there are several countries where it is allowed, such as Switzerland and the Netherlands. Among the therapeutic benefits are relief from inflammation, pain, nausea, better sleep, and alleviation of symptoms of chronic diseases such as arthritis, migraines, and epilepsy. Due to its effect, it is useful for treating schizophrenia. CBD pollen does not create dependence and has no psychoactive effect.
Vaping Cannabis Pollen?
(This is a personal recipe; we ask you to reproduce it only if you have the technical knowledge; in any case, we advise against doing so, and in this case, at your own risk)
Let’s be clear, this step is probably quite technical to do but not impossible; we can independently make liquid for our electronic cigarette to be able to use cannabis pollen that we may have produced ourselves with much higher quality.
We can independently make pollen liquid for our electronic cigarette; obviously, the doses and procedures we use refer to standard doses; if we want more or less product, we will need to increase or decrease the doses.
Ingredients for the pollen liquid for the electronic cigarette
- 10 grams of pollen
- Edible vegetable glycerin (You can find it here)
- Edible Propylene Glycol (You can find it here)
- 20 ml syringe (You can find it here)
- Narrow mesh filter (You can find them here)
- Liquid container (You can find them here)
If you do not have a precision scale, we will need to use the 20 ml syringe to dose the different products, so we always take glycerin and glycol in equal parts; for 10 grams of pollen, we will need to combine 40 ml of glycerin and glycol.
We take the mixture we have created in a very small basin considering the small quantities, we put it in a water bath and let our mixture warm up, always ensuring that it never bubbles and only heats.
The next step could be very long, depending on the quantities we use; once the mixture has reached temperature, you can add the cannabis pollen and start mixing for at least 3 hours; you will need to maintain the temperature not too high and continue stirring to help the union of the pollen and the mixture we are going to create.
Now, we will need to filter our compound for the electronic cigarette with the coffee filter we provided and package our product so that the electronic cigarette smokes the pollen; obviously, the density of our liquid will take time even during filtration, so arm yourself with patience to have your finished product.
Electronic cigarettes for vaping pollen?
Unfortunately, liquids cannot be smoked in our herb vaporizers that we normally use to consume our flowers; for this, we will need to obtain an electronic cigarette.

Pollen collection is not difficult, but care must be taken as it is extremely light, and even the slightest breeze can blow it anywhere, sticking to hands, hair, and clothing. To prevent pollen from spreading everywhere, pollen sacs should be collected in a ziplock bag.
The best solution for harvesting it is to check every day and determine when the male flowers are about to reach maturity. When the flowers are about to open, it is necessary to intervene immediately with an airtight bag to enclose the pollen without allowing it to disperse.
Once harvested, it must be kept away from light and moisture and can also be stored in the refrigerator for a few weeks. To keep it dry, it is advisable to store it in silica gel bags.
CBD pollen: a legal alternative
The legal alternative to pure pollen is CBD pollen, which, although it has a high CBD content, contains THC levels within the limits allowed by laws 242/2016 and 309/1990.
In France, the THC level must be less than 0.2% to be marketed. Therefore, only these plants can be legally used to produce cannabis pollen in France.
